Code of Ethics Requirements
Every REALTOR® is required to complete the Code of Ethics training of no less than 2 hours and 30 minutes of instructional time within 3-year cycles. The current Cycle 6 deadline has been extended from December 31, 2020, to December 31, 2021.
This Code of Ethics training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). Training may be completed through REALTOR® associations or through another method, such as home study, correspondence, classroom courses, or online courses. At its November 11, 2019, meeting, NAR’s Board of Directors, also approved that only courses and equivalencies provided by a local, state, or national REALTOR® association can satisfy the Code of Ethics training requirement.
These ethics trainings are to create awareness and appreciation for the role the code can and should play in REALTORS® professional lives; to enhance professionalism and competency; and to encourage REALTORS® to view their Code of Ethics as a living, viable guide in their daily lives.
